TEP Drinking Game Series - MMA

Bik kicked off our drinking game series with a way to make the National Spelling Bee....well tolerable. I have decided to go a little more mainstream with my first drinking game. An event that typically involves drinks so makes it pretty easy to incorporate. The Extra Period's MMA Drinking Game.

Setup

Like most of these games setup is pretty easy. This one requires a bottle of your favourite hard alcohol, and also a regular drink (beer, wine, mixed). I recommend making sure that whatever bottle you use it is chilled before hand. It makes the drinks a lot easier to go down. Whoever purchases the bottle can decide what it is everyone will be drinking (homefield advantage). You will also need shot glasses (doubles are encouraged as it saves constantly having to pour more shots).

Once booze has been sorted out you will need to find a MMA event. Can be anyone you want just make sure you get 5+ fights. I recommend only playing this game for the main card of the fight (usually 5-7 fights) but if you feel hardcore you can do it for a full card. Make sure you can view it on TV or a laptop and then you are good to go.

Rules

This game originated as a quick and easy way to get a bunch of drinks into you so the rules are pretty simple. There are two ways to drink.

"In Fight Drinks" - When each of the following happens it results in a sip from your regular beverage:
  • A fighter is knocked down with a punch/kick
  • A fighter gets a takedown
  • A legitimate submission attempt (Bonus Rule: take 5 extra drinks if Joe Rogan says anything about the fight being over or the fighter not getting out of the submission)
  • Referee stands up the fighters or breaks them from a clinch
*Drinks should be immediately taken after given, but MUST be completed before the end of the round

"Results Drinks" - After the fight you will take shots corresponding to how the fight finished:
  • 1 shot - Knockout/TKO/Doctors Stoppage
  • 2 shots - Submission
  • 3 shots - Decision (the fighters when the distance so can you)
  • You may challenge someone to "double or nothing". You each take a fighter in a fight you choose and loser drinks double the result (KO=2 Sub=4 Dec=6)
*Shots must be taken BEFORE the next fight starts

Bonus Alcoholic Challenge

If the fight card did not provide you with enough drinking up until the Main Event, you can impose the Bonus Alcoholic Challenge. The challenge is one shot at the start of each round in the main event. This must be taken before each round is started. Penalties for not completing the challenge are left to whoever makes house rules (get creative).
As with any drinking game PLEASE drink responsibly.

Up next in TEP's drinking game series is how to amp up the way you watch your favourite sports leagues draft day.
